Democracy is all about electing leaders, but after all the majorty realizs d trusted 1 is a mess. What to do?

Just want to know, bcz of the situation in Honduras, where the ousted presid claims being the 'legitimate president (not leader). Then want to know, if the coup was bcz the man did not care about the people elected him, then what should be done. Keep quiet and pay for the mistake for about 5 years (if this is the case)? [am not saying Zelaya is a sort of 'mess', am using the occasion].
