Wrigley Field - Illinois vs. Northwestern. Why are end zones at East and West sides of field?

They used to play North South (in the olden days) until Wrigley renovation added box seats. This setup is joke, and boy would I be pissd if I bought endzone tickets in the non-used endzone..
