What will happen to him?

My friend was gambling with 2 other guys and the guys gave him counterfeit money. Not knowing, my friend spent the money and somehow the police found out. They questioned him but he doesn't want to tell the police who gave him the money. (stupid, i know) If he tells, will he still go to prison, or will they just arrest the other guys?
