How do you handle a 10 yr old girl obsessed with her ipod touch?

my daughter's behavior has been awful since she got an ipod touch. She is so obsessed with it and she is very disrespectful when we ask her to do her homework or chores and she has trouble putting her ipod down. We have taken her "touch" away when she has behaved badly, but as soon as she gets it back, its the same ole crappy attitude. She doesn't seem to learn and she will scream and cry uncontrollably each and every time its taken away. She is becoming very resentful of her parents and while we do not want her to be unhappy, we will not give in to her either. We did the counseling thing with her for something else and it was a short term solution but not sure if she can be reached on this. Need some advise, please
